The story of an artisanal factory passing on its manufacturing secrets for generations...

The story begins in 1828, when Pierre RAMPAL works as“Master Soapmaker”at the Court-de-Payen soap factory in Marseille. He transmitted his know-how to his son and his grandson, Pierre Lazare RAMPAL, who achieved excellence and in 1900 obtained a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of Versailles. In 1907, he created his own soap factory in Salon de Provence at 71 rue Félix Pyat. Today, you can discover a site, which will tell you all its authentic history. We open our doors to those wishing to share a unique moment in a warm atmosphere, and ready to explore the noble craftsmanship of the Marseille soap factory.

A soap factory established in Salon de Provence, capital of soap since 1873

In the 19th century, Salon de Provence started in the wake of Marseille, its ambition was to continue and develop the manufacture of soap. In 1873, the city manages to become one of the main regional centers in the manufacture and trade of soap thanks to its important resources in oils, the progressive mechanization of production and the arrival of the railway.

The First World War and then the advent of washing powders marked a halt to decades of euphoria for the craft of soap. If in 1900 there were twelve soap factories in Salon de Provence, there are only two left today, including our soap factory, Rampal Latour, proud to transmit and constantly improve its know-how as a master soap maker, and to promoting Marseille soap, made with respect for tradition.
